Prepare for a useful first conversation
Prepare an overview of assets, annual income, source of funds and your adult child’s status. Discuss the immigration pathway before committing investment funds.
A common question
Is the investment simply a $1 million bond?
No. Acceptable investment and fund-transfer rules apply. The investment requirement is only one part of the assessment.
Prepare your application file
- Family evidence: adult child’s NZ status and residence, proof of your relationship and the wider family circumstances.
- Financial evidence: separate the investment funds, settlement funds and annual income, and document ownership and lawful source.
- Transfer plan: identify how funds could be transferred through acceptable channels and keep a traceable record of each step.
A point worth checking early
This is different from the Parent Resident sponsor-income pathway. INZ currently lists NZ$1 million invested for four years, NZ$500,000 settlement funds and NZ$60,000 annual income, alongside other requirements. Do not count the same funds twice.
